Why you should never tell your children they are smart...

I love this article from Sal Khan of Khan Academy.  He talks about praising his son; not when he's succeeded with something he can already do, but instead when he perseveres with something challenging or difficult.

We have grown up in a society that fears failure.  If you have heard the quote, "Failure is not an option," then you know what I mean.  However, failure is not something to be feared.  It is a natural part of learning.  The brain actually grows and builds new connections when we make mistakes.

I am working to bring this understanding to my students.  I don't want them to fear failure: whether it's the wrong answer on a math problem or misspelling a word. With mistakes, our brains will grow and we will learn. So let's put in the effort and "fail forward," until we are successful!

Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
